Lightning Policy
Please see the attached NEW lightning policy from Canada Soccer that comes into effect immediately.
This policy will be distributed to all Alberta Soccer referees & members today and it is expected that referees, coaches and other members will work together in applying this new policy.
We understand that this policy is a change from the current 30/30 policy but the understanding for weather systems has changed over the past 15 years and environment Canada has updated their policy (as of June 23, 2017,http://www.ec.gc.ca/foudre-lightning/default.asp?lang=En&n=57412D67-1).
Please read the entire policy, but the basic change is that we no longer have to count the seconds. If you hear any thunder, the game must be suspended immediately, and everyone should seek appropriate shelter until 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me directly.
